The PCG, as an attached agency of the DOTC strongly adheres to the policy guidelines set forth by the President and Secretary, DOTC by continuously standing guard to ensure the safety of lives and properties at sea and by strengthening and incessantly providing the safety net of the country’s maritime jurisdiction towards national development.
As initial response to His Excellency President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III’s Marching Orders to the Philippine Coast Guard to take more proactive steps or measures in notifying and recalling fishermen during severe weather conditions, the PCG issued and subsequently published an advisory for fishermen entitled, “Paalala Sa Mga Mangingisda” through its Coast Guard Districts, Stations and Detachments.
On the other hand, the PCG is grateful for the recent recommendation of the President during his Budget Call to the Congress in the increase of the PCG Budget in the amount of P1.6 billion for the acquisition of heavy weather rescue helicopters with night capability on the proposed national expenditure program of the government for FY 2011. This budget increase will be a big boost to the administrative and operational capabilities, particularly in the Search and Rescue (SAR) response of the PCG.
